| 24. with the cows
When I was a boy and you was a boy too
And we was unlettered
I sat up the nights with my granmother.
I ate sweets by the hearth.
I jumped six terraces,
Saw the ill- tempered bullocks
Hitched to the plough,
And maybe the quiet serf
Shouting ah-ah-rrrrr
Had wanted to be a child too under the bough.
You wrapped a turban around your head
While the village slept,
Blew your horn three times
And summoned the sleepy boys to
Your cowshed.
The calves ambled behind the cows
And the boys horsed behind you
For the trail to the river rushes
Was still a happy walk,
And the staff in your hand was
Only a toy,
For you was still just a cowhand
Krsna
And I was only a boy. next: telling |
