I was king.
My men wise, my women buxom.
tadapashyami kaalah.
A wife did not want her man,
langhayati sah nyayam.
What could I say?
tada pashyaami kalayasyajananam
Shining like wares in the market,
And I knew no
Peace,
No calm.
The doors were shut,
Locks weighed upon latches.
tada pashyaami
She spoke a wanton tongue,
And lingered in the street after something,
Making eyes
At the rich and the strong.
yada yadoh gachchaami cha
na lajjanti koapi nagare.
Slowly
Slowly
The people forget the old way. next: arjuna |
