still life

Still Life

slip into my shadow
like a suspended silhouette
what if we've become
our nemesis, never free

standing like a statue, strangled
let me taste the salt of your blood
as it shivers

burn in the shield of my silence
sculpt me a still life.

Jack

the cheeky glint in his eye
subtle flash of animation
suddenly disappeared

the mysterious laugh
silly nicknames he made for me
finished and forgotten

now we sit in a fantasy parade
and I ponder the question
how many special people change

Surrender

wait beneath the willow tree
and watch the night sky breathe
as twilight falls and closes in
on our fleeting, foolish hearts

whisper your deepest fears
the distant moments you left
learning how to lie discreetly
may come back to haunt you now

when the lightning strikes your eyes
let the light survive you, though
the memory you stained will stay
assaulting your sold soul in darkness

I Often Wonder

I wonder if
When the new year comes
And the clouds part
The air will be sweeter
And the songs will be louder
And I'll see you glow
For the first time

I wonder, now
When all is said and done
I'll be illuminated, for a minute
Maybe I'll say something profound
And you'll write it down, remember it
Forever

I wonder, tonight
What we will find at the end
Scarecrows, ghosts and magic
Will you be star struck or speechless
A cocktail of contradictions, unserved

I wonder, suddenly, if
The last person who calls
Will be you... While I free fall

Untitled

where will we be
in an instant, in infinity
when the glass breaks
and the voices gently fade

take my hand and hold it
dance in a miracle furnace
as we play without bounds
bring it home, only this time

stay close and feel the fire
wash away the beginning
clear out the grey matter
so that only beauty remains

Sanction

fragments of faces, tasteless
learning how to lie low
nightgowns and no sounds
a little dark room disappears

this flight plan is flawed now
the coldest story sits in storage
a vacant kiss and then the blacklist
blueprints of our life blown out

cry in the ache of my defence
the mask of nothing and nowhere
questions and lessons, we're learning
well godspeed, please

Sweet Serenity

what happens
when it's all over
is it like a bonfire in winter
silver snowflakes and cheap wine
insatiable goods for the heroes

what if
when I sit with you
the space between us is forever
we try and speak but the words escape
incredible twists and turns into nowhere

will you wait with me, even if I die first
and we float in a river
iced with your favourite delight
my sweet serenity
